Words

looking for this specific word, one that means something like: clarification, construction, elucidation, explanation, explication, exposition, illumination, illustration, or interpretation.

A word that describes the act and process of looking with an intent to understand, to burrow down through possible readings, to playfully consider any aspect of a thing as shedding a new light on it - and then what you choose do with it.

'Exegesis' jumped out at me eventualy.
Its associations with biblical bookishness can be forgiven, especially in the light of the associations that have accreted to its companion words; hermaneutics and semiotics.

Tracking the word back...
Exegesisis is a prefixed form of hegesthai: to guide.
it is used with two prefixes;
The prefix 'ex': out of.
Exegeisthai: to guide out of (a complexity), or, to explain, to interpret.
Or
The prefix 'eis': into
Eisegeisthai: to guide into,  to introduce.

Eisegesis: an introduction (of extraneous matter), Came to mean, a faulty interpretation caused by introducing ones own ideas. - one who does this is an eisegete, as am I.

Exegesis: an explanation, clarification, elucidation or interpretation.
